This is the start of PC Records in 2021

PC Records wants to start the year with everything

PC Records is a label that showed talent and potential during a year that was hard for everyone, where the world began to face a pandemic that has devastated many people. But precisely in this environment of confinement and taking care of ourselves, music has flourished, becoming company for many and even a way to release stress and seek happiness.

PC Records 2021
PC Records is an independent label.

During this year PC Records showed us a variety of styles from reggaeton, through bachata and merengue to salsa and jazz. The independent label wants to continue its good streak in 2021, publicizing more artists and musical proposals for the enjoyment of the Latin and American public, as expressed by Hamilton Caucayo, president of PC Records with 35 years of experience. Among which we find:

Luis Damon and his “Rompecabezas”

PC Records 2021
Luis Damon’s “Rompecabezas”

Luis Damon, a New Yorker with Puerto Rican blood in his veins, grew up in the Bronx and was surrounded by music from a very young age. His first production in Spanish came out in 1996 and from there it was only hits after hits. Nominated for Los Premios Lo Nuestro, Luis has managed to maintain a solid career. On this occasion he presents us “Rompecabezas” an urban Latin pop single written by Obie Bermudez, another Puerto Rican with the collaboration of Luis himself, the production was in charge of Julius Cesar.

OWY’s “La Iniciativa”

PC Records 2021
OWY’s “La Iniciativa”

Oswaldo Paternostro is better known as OWY and is one of PC Records’ new proposals for this year. OWY is a singer, songwriter and producer from Colombia, who has dedicated himself to the urban genre, reaching a great reception among young audiences. He was born and raised in Barranquilla under the protection of his grandparents, who have always supported him. Now he presents “La Iniciativa” with which he wants to continue conquering the Latin markets.

Homero Gallardo presents “GOD Love UFO”

PC Records 2021
Homero’s GOD Love UFO

The talented Jazz artist Homero Gallardo was PC Records’ bet to close 2020 and start 2021 strong. Homero was born and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador and from a very young age he felt a passion for music, managing to perform with great artists from the southern region. He later moved to Miami to continue his music studies focusing on Jazz, but making himself known in the city’s music scene, which led him to be close to artists such as Thalía and Luis Fonsi.

Ayash wants to be “Como Tú”

PC Records 2021
Ayash’s single “Como Tú”

Ayash is another of PC Records’ new proposals, with her they want to bet on female talent, with a young woman who defines herself as powerful, with attitude and security, but who at the end of the day is still an incurable romantic and loves being in love. With her new single “Como Tú” the artist with Spanish origins but raised in Orange County, California shows Mediterranean fusion rhythms and a very personal story. Ayash is currently living in Miami where she bets on the warmth of the Spanish-speaking public.

These proposals are just the beginning of what we hope will be a great year for PC Records, with its talented artists and their hard work who continue to make their Latin origins proud.

Both artists are on the “most creative” list of the prestigious magazine

The Dominican Republic edition of the prestigious Forbes magazine has put Manny Cruz and Daniel Santacruz on the cover. There is an article dedicated to both of them as “the most creative in the region”.

In the article we see many compliments towards both brothers, where they highlight how much Manny’s lyrics have meant for the audiences, saying that little by little he has become “one of the main exponents of the new merengue generation”, something that is easy to say, but that has been a difficult achievement to reach. The magazine also summarizes the artistic career of the Dominican, highlighting the most important moments of his career, such as the beginning of this, as well as the most impressive goals he has achieved over the years.

On the other hand, his brother Daniel received a lot of compliments too, to get an idea, we just need to know that the article describes him as “the world ambassador of bachata”, a title that he has earned through the years. The singer has crossed all kinds of borders, becoming a highly recognized artist internationally.

In addition to these talented brothers review, we can also perceive how excited both artists are when reading their words about their new single together, which, although at the moment the exact month of the release is not known, the American has made it clear that it will come out early next year, so the followers of both are waiting for the news on this promising song.

The 2020 of the brothers

Without a doubt, 2020 has been one of the most unpredictable years in recent times, and there is no wonder why, with a threatening pandemic that has been around since the end of 2019, the complications for all have been many, and artists are no exception. However, the inconveniences that have arisen have not been enough to stop the success of these two singers.

Manny Cruz has said in interviews that he is very happy with the commercial impact that this year has had, making it clear that the success of his songs in countries like Venezuela makes his heart overflow with joy. Regarding his success, he also said that he has always dreamed big, and pointed out the importance of setting clear goals to achieve. On the other hand, Daniel Santacruz has been genuinely happy to get the prestigious “Latin Grammy” for best merengue and / or bachata album, a goal that countless artists dream of reaching.

They come with the best vibes for this new year, also with very ambitious projects in which they are putting all their hearts.

Despite how strange the situation was in 2020, both artists have had very good moments, which makes us think that 2021 can be even better, not only because of the promising song they made together, but also because everything seems to indicate that their careers will not stop progressing in a positive way.

Renowned pianist and producer Sony Ovalles died

The news was released on Sunday 13

On Sunday, December 13, Latin music mourned the death of the great pianist and music producer Sony Ovalles, who was a key piece of the merengue and music in his native Dominican Republic. It was known that the cause of death was a heart attack, many industry figures spoke about it:

“Dominican Music is still mourning, the teacher, producer, arranger, pianist Sony Ovalles has just died of a heart attack! Responsible for many hits of Wilfrido Vargas, Jhonny Ventura, Sergio Vargas, Monchy Capricho, Rubby Perez among other great orchestras and Dominican artists! My condolences to his family and friends! Another great musician who becomes part of the Celestial Orchestra! Rest in peace Sony Ovalles’ soul!”, expressed Alejandro Henríquez through his Instagram account.

Ovalles has left a very huge position to fill, since his contribution to Latin music is very great. There are many outstanding artists who owe many of their successes to this genius, whose favorite instrument was the piano. But his talent went beyond the black and white keys, his gift for producing, composing, and arranging the songs with which so many artists and groups became known, could be considered magic. Heaven is now celebrating to the rhythm of the Dominican Sony Ovalles!

Learn more about the great musician Sony Ovalles

His real name was Rafael Ovalles Amaro, but it was through Sony Ovalles that the industry knew him. He was born in Salcedo, part of the Hermanas Mirabal province, in the always beautiful Dominican Republic, back in the 40s, being the proud son of Carlos Ovalles and Nidia Amaro. His initiation in music did not occur until he was 14, under the tutelage of the great musician Cuto Estévez, who managed to see a future with music for Sony.

He was the pianist of choice of Wlfrido Vargas, Félix del Rosario, Runny Pérez, and many more artists, despite not being in front of the stage, his presence was very powerful alongside the other musicians in the orchestra. Apart from collaborating with solo artists, Sony also lent its talents to great groups such as Joseíto Mateo’s, Los Hermanos Rosario, Las Chicas del Can, along with many more.

In addition to collaborating with great artists, he formed different groups, such as the salsa group El Complot that had Mike Peguero as its interpreter, as well as an orchestra with Vicente Pacheco as singer. Despite standing out in the merengue, he put his touch to several salsa compositions, recorded a complete album with the salsero Michel, highlighting the song Esa mujer.

There were many hits where he collaborated but the following are some of the most important: Wilfrido Vargas’ Atrevida, 13 años and Bachata merengue; Sergio Vargas’ Noche, La tierra tembló and Por ella; Vicente Pacheco’s El atracador, The New York Band y Tus 20 años. But his repertoire was infinite, demonstrating once again the great talent that exists in the Dominican Republic, one of the Caribbean jewels.

Latin Music Revolution in United States: Record labels that bet on producing Latino Artists

North America / United States

Record labels that bet on the first Latin singers in the United States

Currently, visiting a nightclub in the US and listening to a bachata or merengue song is totally normal. The assistants, regardless of their nationality, will end up dancing and chanting the melodies. However, a few years ago it was not this way. Find out which labels made this a reality.

Latin music came to the United States around 1930 thanks to the bolero. Its growth continued to rise within its borders passing through salsa, chachachá and merengue; until genres such as bachata and Latin jazz became popular in order to position themselves as they are today. To a large extent, social networks have contributed to the projection of today’s artists. For the most part, they create strategies that increase their reach by improving their sales and reproductions. In 2019, on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, which measures the most popular songs in the United States, there were more Latin songs than ever. A true historical record!

Record Labels in Latin Music
Record Labels of Latin Music

These data were revealed by Leila Cobo, Billboard’s vice president for the Latin market.

In 2018, Latin music rose to the fifth place with the highest demand in the United States, according to the music statistics firm BuzzAngle, in charge of rankings for Rolling Stone magazine.

For many, it is a cause for astonishment and they cannot imagine what the previous story is. The first Latin singers had to go a long way, being rejected in some opportunities but, finally, achieving success on American soil. There is a long list of characters who paved the way for other Latin musicians such as: Héctor Lavoe, Celia Cruz, Rubén Blades, among others.

Another curious fact worthy of consideration corresponds to the companies that were behind these releases: the record companies. Those record labels that dared to try a foreigner with a proposal in a language other than the United States; They trusted and believed in his talent. Part of this musical revolution, it is thanks to them and their directors.

Record labels that bet on the first Latin singers in the United States

Fania Records

In 1964 this project was born in New York City. It was founded by the American businessman, producer and promoter, Jerry Masucci and the Dominican musician Johnny Pacheco.

Pacheco is one of the most influential figures in Caribbean and Latin music. He is a composer, director, arranger; he specializes in Cuban and Caribbean music such as salsa. This singer also had to go step by step within the US market, train in its streets and go after recognition. In 1960 Pacheco y su Charanga was created, a band that reached more than 100,000 copies on its first album. Alegre Records was the label they signed with. His fame led him to visit countless countries. His experience in the industry made his wish he could help others. After creating Fania Records, he was recognized for promoting the careers of many young artists.

The name of Fania Records was taken from a Cuban song by Reinaldo Bolaño. In part, their great popularity was due to their promotion of salsa. The label supported the greats of the show such as: Rubén Blandes, Willie Colón, Tito Puente, Bobby Valentin, Ray Barretto and Héctor Lavoe, among others.

Over the years, the American music industry was increasingly influenced by songs in Spanish. Those who do not speak the language have commented that they are attracted to the catchy rhythm and do not hesitate to dance them non-stop. The US public has become less skeptical of Latin rhythms. Recording industry experts say it is due to the rhythms and their proximity to the songs in English.

The creation of platforms such as YouTube and the appearance of streaming platforms has given greater openness to the market. More and more Latinos are succeeding in the US and record companies are deciding to finance their projects.

Merlin, a specialized agency, has been in charge of bringing together different independent record companies and managing the collection of income derived from streaming platforms. Half of the record labels associated with Merlin are American. On the other hand, the number of clicks and visits obtained by Latin songs on video platforms such as YouTube and Vevo are increasing, especially in the case of audiences in the US The number of new immigrants and young people must also be considered. Born to Latino or Latin American parents.

The market continues to bet on Latin music. In fact, in the United States there are a large number of stations focused on this type of music. Users can request the songs of their choice and enjoy them at any time of the day.

What will be the next step for songs in Spanish within the United States?
