Every day, the interior of the premises operates from 10 am to 9 pm. Monday through Friday, the terrace is open from 4 pm to 9 pm. On Fridays, the venue offers the Angry Hour, which is entirely dedicated to hardcore punk rock and bands playing this peculiar genre. On Saturdays, there is an afternoon delight, which is animated by musicians Calixto and Jimmy James.

Of course, there may be days when there are cumbia, salsa, merengue and bolero themed nights accompanied by the talent of invited artists, who will be in charge of adding music to the atmosphere. Considering that there is not s specific day for these themed nights, La Cita Bar’s social networks will be the ones to announce events planned in the future and the artists involved, mainly its official Facebook.

When we look though the wide catalogue of artists who have endowed this bar with their appreciated presence, we can note that its team truly takes pains to get the best and to offer it to its distinguished clientele. Among those, we can mention Spaguetti Cumbia, Reyna Tropical, DJ Ricky Guapo, DJ Pump Police, DJ Paw and many others.

With respect to the opinions issued by many of the customers through certain platforms, the best features of the place are its energy and music, but they are not the only thing drawing in the crowd that always comes here. The cheapness of most of the drinks offered is also a very strong point in favor of the club, as this gives anyone the option of having a good time between drinks regardless of their economic situation.

Even some who no longer frequent the place due to the remoteness or moving to another city remember with nostalgia the fun they had there and the excellent attention offered by the La Cita Bar team.

Thank you very much Carlos, for giving me this wonderful opportunity to be present in this media, where great exponents of salsa have interacted with special affection and shared their experiences.

Alicia, previously you told us that you were born in the town of San Sebastián de las Vegas del Pepino, in Puerto Rico, a region of great art on the island of enchantment?

Indeed, Prof. Carlos, I was born in that wonderful place, famous for its handicrafts, its Maguey hammocks and also recognized for being the birthplace of artists such as Sophy Hernandez, Alfonso Velez, Nito Mendez, as well as the composer Angel Mislan.

Amiga Alicia, we would like to know about your beginnings in music and when you started to develop your artistic career, and why your inclination for the musical genre of salsa?

In 2013, specifically on April 8, I debuted my album "Sin dudas" at the Luis Aymat Cardona Coliseum in the event "Jugando con las estrellas", along with renowned artists, among them: Michael Stuart, Abraham Velasquez, Bangi (Grupo Mania) and Boxing champion Tito Trinidad. — Alicia Muñoz Composer and vocalist from the Isle of Enchantment.

Wuaoo! of course, well professor, let me tell you that at the age of 4 years, my teacher, knowing the initial talent I had for singing, accompanied me and looked for places for me to sing, such as patron saint festivals, family events, and festivals, such as the now-defunct festival of San Sebastian, I had a great satisfaction thanks to God almighty, to win many awards for my voice, even as a little girl and I got to sing with the traditional group “Estampas Pepinianas”; but always salsa, as a good Puerto Rican I carry it in my veins.

Interesting start, and could you tell us when you begin to venture into the professional field and especially your first recordings?

Well, in 2013, specifically on April 8, I debuted with my album “Sin Dudas” in the coliseum Luis Aymat Cardona in the event “Jugando con las Estrellas”, along with renowned artists, including Michael Stuart, Abraham Velasquez, Bangi (Grupo Mania) and Boxing champion Tito Trinidad; there in that show I was cheered by the sovereign and with good praise for my musical work, let me tell you Carlos that my first musical production entitled “Alicia 2004”, had a very good acceptance Connecticut and then in Springfield Massachusetts. Later in 2009, I recorded my second production, which for personal reasons I did not release, but it sounded and sounds in radio stations and dance clubs; and among these songs are: “Que lloren” by Yvy Queen, “Bandido” by Ana Barbara, “Todos me Miran” by Gloria Trevi, “Báilalo, Báilalo” of my authorship, “Condenada a Tu Amor”, “Perdida a tu Amor” and “Cuéntale”. All of them were played on radio stations in Colombia, Uruguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, France, Spain, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Ah! Friend Carlos, let me tell you that on February 14, 2015, a compilation of my previous musical productions was released, entitled “Que me pasa”.

Indeed, in 2017, I released my single “Te Pido Señor”, which quickly climbed to the top of the Hit Parade of Latin music, then in 2018, I presented the singles: “Fácil” and te “Pido Señor”; in 2019 “Cruzando Fronteras” and in 2020, “Salsa para el Cielo”.

We understand Alicia, that a few days ago, you released your first single “Mi Lugar”, where you manage to mix the freshness of your angelic voice with the swing and flavor of good salsa for music lovers and dancers, tell us about it:

Very well, friends International Salsa Magazine / www.SalsaGoogle.com, and thanks to you, professor Carlos Colmenárez, I want to present you, my new song “Mi Lugar”, which is a composition by Jorge del Valle, arrangements and musical direction by Víctor Gámez, mixed and mastered under the hands of Jose Guerrero from Josmastering Studios Venezuela and with the masterful instrumentation of different musicians such as Luis Ruiz on trumpets, Johan Escalante on trombones, Euro Zambrano on percussion, Victor Gamez on piano, Chelo Bolivar on bass and Venezuelan Marcial Isturiz, on backing vocals; by the way, this work was recorded at A & R Recording Studio, M.A; so I hope it is to your liking and you can enjoy it on digital platforms.

The legend of Gon Bops began in 1954 in California, USA.

It remains one of the oldest and most respected Latin instrument makers in the world.

The legend of Gon Bops began in 1954 in California when Mexican-American Mariano Bobadilla (born in Guadalajara), who would become one of the most respected conga makers in the percussion industry, began designing and building conga and bongo drums.

Bobadilla, a band instrument repairman and professional trumpet player, launched Gon Bops in his father’s old wooden garage in a downtown Los Angeles neighborhood.

He chose the name Gon Bops because “Gon” was one of the colloquial expressions of the time, like “everything goes, man,” and “Bops” because his friends nicknamed him Bob, which sounded like “Bop” in the Latin dialect.

Although Bobadilla’s drums remained true to the classic Cuban form, he was a true innovator in the development of drum hardware. He designed the first teardrop-shaped crown with rounded rims, developed to protect the hands of the musicians, a concept that is now universally accepted.

It remains one of the oldest and most respected Latin instrument makers in the world. — The legend of Gon Bops began in 1954 in California, USA.

He also gave birth to the first tunable hardware for congas and bongos in the United States. After seeing how Cuban congueros heated the drums in their kitchens before performing, Bobadilla decided there had to be a simpler and more reliable method for tuning these instruments.

Other innovations of the young company included taroles (wooden timbales), the first pre-assembled replacement heads for congas, chromatic tuned cowbells, and numerous stands, adapters and other accessories.

Gon Bops was very successful in its early days. The instruments were in great demand by the top musicians of the time – giants such as Alex Acuña, Mongo Santamaría, Francisco Aguabella, Armando Peraza, Poncho Sánchez, José Hernández and Rich Barrientos, all of whom contributed invaluable R&D input. Gon Bops quickly became the undisputed leader in Latin percussion instruments and remained so throughout the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Mariano remained deeply committed to a hands-on role in production and retained complete control of the design and manufacture of all his products. As a result, Gon Bops instruments were mainstays on the world’s biggest stages, including the massive Woodstock festival in 1969.

However, the winds of change swept through the American percussion industry. By the time the 1980s arrived, all the major U.S. percussion manufacturers had moved overseas to manufacture their instruments. Cheap Asian labor costs meant higher profits.

But as manufacturing costs declined, so did quality, and for that reason Bobadilla refused to move its production out of the United States. As a result, Gon Bops began to struggle financially. Unable to compete with its larger competitors, Bobadilla had no choice but to close the doors of his beloved company.

Fortunately, that was not to be the end of the Gon Bops brand. In 2001, Don Lombardi of U.S. drum manufacturer DW bought the company along with all its patents and trademarks.

Lombardi had met Bobadilla in 1978, when he used Gon Bops’ Timbale shells to build DW’s brass snares, and had subsequently continued to seek Bobadilla’s R&D advice. It was a great fit, and it was no coincidence that the quality of DW’s drums and hardware continued to grow after the Gon Bops acquisition.

To manage his newly acquired Gon Bops brand, Lombardi hired the best drum craftsmen in the United States. He even purchased San Francisco-based Sol Percussion to recruit its founder, drum builder Akbar Moghaddam, to the Gon Bops cause.

Moghaddam brought with him fellow drummer Octavio Ruiz, and Lombardi teamed them up with Alejandro Perez, a drum builder who had worked with Mariano Bobadilla at the original Gon Bops factory.

In 2010, cymbal manufacturer SABIAN Inc. announced that it had purchased the inventory, intellectual property, patents and manufacturing equipment of Gon Bops from DW.

The deep commitment to innovation that SABIAN applied to its own instruments had inspired founder Robert Zildjian and his son, SABIAN president Andy Zildjian, to seek out like-minded instrument companies available for acquisition. And it just so happened that Lombardi had begun looking for a buyer for Gon Bops.

“We are excited to begin this new chapter in the history of SABIAN and Gon Bops,” Andy Zildjian notes. “Gon Bops instruments are a perfect blend of vintage craftsmanship and innovative thinking. Since its founding in 1954, the company has pioneered several features and enhancements that have forever changed Latin instruments.
