Pablo Padin born in Manhattan, New York. I grew up with a pair of Timbales at home

I was born in Manhattan, New York on December 1, 1969. My parents Pablo and Haydee Padin moved from Puerto Rico to New York in 1968. My father played Timbales with local salsa groups at the time, so I grew up with a pair of Timbales at home.

My father started teaching me how to play at a very young age. We moved to LA. , California in 1978 and I started playing drums in the school band and in the community drill teams as well.

I (Pablo Padin) got my first private drum set lesson at the age of 9 at a music school in Hollywood California.

At the age of 15, I (Pablo Padin) started playing my first steady gig in a salsa band with my father at a nightclub in Marina Del Rey, California.

In 1989 we moved to Puerto Rico so I started studying music at the Interamerican University in San German, PR. At the university I studied with the musicians that were playing with all the big salsa and merengue groups of that time.

So at that point in time I started playing with famous salsa singers such as Roberto Lugo, Nino Segarra, Hector Tricoche, Domingo Quiñones and Johnny Rivera.

At the same time I started doing studio work as well. In 1996 I got the call to play with Gilberto SantaRosa and did that gig for 15 years. It was with Gilberto that I hooked up with piano player, arranger and producer Jose Lugo.

Jose started using me on all of his studio productions. I have won 6 Latin Grammys and 2 American Grammys on recordings and productions of artists such as: Millie Quezada, Elvis Crespo, Grupo Mania, Gilberto SantaRosa and Tito El Bambino.

At that point in my career I started recording and playing concerts with artist such as Puerto Rican Power, Pedro Brull, Yomo Toro & Willie Colón, Andy Montañez, Ismael Miranda, Tito Nieves, Cheo Feliciano, Rafael De Jesus, Richie Ray & Bobby Cruz, Bobby Valentín, Marvin Santiago, Cano Estremera, Victor Manuelle, Ruben Blades, Ray De La Paz, Jose Alberto ”El Canario” Lalo Rodriguez, Truko Y Zaperoko, DLG, Isaac Delgado, Herman Oliveras, Edwin Colón Zayas and many others.

To this date I’ve been working with Jose Lugo’s Guasabara Combo, in which our first cd was nominated for the Latin Grammy.

We are working on our third cd now that will include two original compositions of mine. I’m super exited, humbled and thankful for all the great experiences that I’ve lived and for the ones that are yet to come, Thank You God!!!!!

José Madera, Percussion & Arranger of Machito, Tito Rodriguez and Tito Puente

One would think that a job with the world famous Tito Puente

Band keep busy a percussionist.

But the musician, arranger and composer José Madera had yet found the time to record and write music for some of the most influential bands in the world.

Prior to joining Tito Puente over 35 years ago, Madera play for four years with the famous Machito Orchestra, and recorded with many artists of R & B (including James Brown, Diana Ross, David Sanborn and Aztec Two – Step).

As an arranger for Fania Records Plant, played in several comerciales successes, and through the years has composed music for the Fania All- Stars, Larry Harlow , Johnny Pacheco , Willie Colón, and Celia Cruz .

Although he has recorded some 75 albums in 20 years, as well as numerous radio jingles and film soundtracks, Madera still had time for his other career for 15 years he had worked as a teacher and conductor in a high school for the performing arts with private funds, in the city of New York.

Jose has written many arrangements for countless commercial Latin artists and has recorded or worked with many of them as well. Some of them include: Larry Harlow, Johnny Pacheco, Chico O’Farill: The Lincoln Center Afro-Cuban jazz orchestra, Celia Cruz, Tito Rodriguez, Fania All-Stars, Willie Colon, Joe Farrell, Machito, Graciela, Mario Bauza, Willie Rosario, Earl Klughand Eddie Palmieri, just to name a few.

Jose has also worked and recorded with many pop, R&B and jazz artists.

Some of them include Diana Ross, James Brown, Dizzy Gillespie, Paquito D’Rivera, George Benson and Lionel Hampton among others.

Jose has performed on over 250 recordings. He has worked on several television show soundtracks including “The Simpsons” and several motion picture soundtracks including ”The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love” where he was the musical arranger and conductor for the Tito Puente segment of the film.

Jose also taught the art of playing Latin percussion instruments at BOYS HARBOR in New York City for 28 years.

Jose has done and continues to do musical clinics around the country at various schools.

¨He was the musical director of the Latin Giants of Jazz from 2001 to 2009¨.

José Madera continues his musical direction with the Mambo Legends Orchestra, a band comprised of former members of the Tito Puente Orchestra, which is dedicated to performing new creative Latin and Latin jazz concepts, as well as some of the music of Machito, Tito Rodriguez and Tito Puente.

José Madera has personally re-created and re-arranged much of the music that the ban ds performed during the heyday of the Mambo at the Palladium Ballroom in New York City, which is considered by many critics to be the “Greatest and Mostinnovative Era” in the history of Latin music.

Madera’s saxophonist father Jose “Pin ” Madera, was one of the original members of the Afro -Cuban Orchestra Machito .

Young Joseph was influenced by drummer Machito (The best Latin Big Band drummer I’ve ever heard).

Later I was influenced by José Mangual and the same Tito Puente. The LP Timbale bell (circa 1966) was the first instrument Wood LP , today plays a variety of congas , bongos , guiro and bells LP.

Compared with the instruments that were used years ago , the sounds I get from the LP instruments are very authentic.

As an arranger, it is very gratifying to know that whatever you write will be accompanied by instruments LP, which only improve the quality of interpretation.

In 2008, Madera was entrusted to the Department of Research and Development LP designing the Signature Series José Madera Congas .

José Madera is proud that these drums, bearing his name, present a sound and a visual such outstanding features.

Eddie Montalvo

Eddie Montalvo, Was a personal friend of the singer and legend of Afro-Caribeña music Héctor Lavoe

Eddie Montalvo, two time Grammy award winner, born and raised in the South Bronx of New York City, descendent of Puerto Rican roots, found his passion for music at very early age.

His parents Leonardo and Carmen instilled in Eddie the richness of Latin music and the heritage of their Puerto Rican culture.

During his high school years, he ventured in the school band and decided to become a conga player.

In 1970 at the age of 17, Eddie’s first professional show was with Joey Pastrana which led to another show with Tony Pabon & La Protesta and Ernie Agosto y La Conspiracion.

Then immediately after studio recordings commenced with La Conquistadora de Martin Galagarza, Tony Pabon y La Protesta.

Then in 1976 Eddie joined the band Los Kimbos of Orestes Vilato as the band’ conga player.

Montalvo’s distinctive and unique conga playing was spreading like wild fire among his peers and in the music industry which consequently led his endorsement in 1976 by the instrument company Latin Percussion and recordings with Luis Perico Ortiz, Nicky Marrero, Jose Fajardo, Pupi Lagaretta, Luigui Texidor, Los Kimbos, Hector Casanova, Santiago Ceron and renown artists such as Celia Cruz, Hector Lavoe, Fania All Stars and Juan Luis Guerra and with Johnny Pacheco where Eddie was a member of his band for two years.

Eddie has had the privilege to record in over 200 productions for renown artists, as well as up and coming artists.

In 1977 Eddie had the honor of joining the band of one of salsa’ greatest artists, Hector Lavoe. Not only did Eddie successfully embraced the roll of conga player with Hector Lavoe’s band, but also did back up chorus for him as well.

While his time with Lavoe, Montalvo was hired to record on the album “Siembra” with renown artists, Willie Colon and Ruben Blades which sold over 25 million copies worldwide and became one of the most prestigious Salsa productions of all times.

In 1979 Eddie proceeded to audition and became the youngest member of the renown Salsa band, Fania All-Stars.

After numerous accolades, worldwide notoriety and sold out concerts, today Fania continues bringing to the world the very best of Salsa of which Eddie continues being a member and is about to embark on Fania All Stars 2013-2014 World Tour.

During this time it’s when the opportunity of a lifetime presented itself. Ruben Blades approached Eddie in 1983 to join his world renown group, Seis del Solar.

After a series of successful tours around the world, Eddie recorded on the 1986 Grammy award winning album “Escenas” with Seis del Solar.

Then in June 2009, Ruben Blades reunited the Seis del Solar for the 25th Anniversary of Buscando America in an ambitious tour of the Americas.

Culminating with the world tour of Todos Vuelven in 2010 which earned Eddie a Latin Grammy win in 2011 for the live recording of Todos Vuelven Live Vol 1 & 2.

Eddie Montalvo also had the privilege of performing with Ruben Blades and Sting at the Amnesty International in Santiago, Chile.

Eddie Montalvo has achieved many goals and one of them was to record his first production titled On My Own in 1995.

He also had the privilege of participating in a supporting roll in the 2006 movie “El Cantante” based on the life of his personal friend and Salsa legend, Hector Lavoe, and also recorded in the sound track of the Broadway play The Capeman with Paul Simon.

In August 2012, Eddie Montalvo finally launches his new recording project titled “Desde Nueva York a Puerto Rico”.

This amazing production is a master piece in the making which was brilliantly produced by Eddie Montalvo and Jose Lugo, which has gathered some of Salsa’ greatest like: Ruben Blades, Cheo Feliciano, Willie Rosario, Papo Lucca, Domingo Quiñones, Rico Walker, Issac Delgado, Wichy Camacho, Pichie Perez and Tito Gonzalez.

Since Nueva York a Puerto Rico took the music industry by storm and earned Eddie an American Grammy nomination on February 2013 for Best Tropical Latin Album.

The first single of the album titled El Hijo del Ricachon featuring Ruben Blades received airplay in the Northeast and Puerto Rico.

The following singles Caonabo featuring Cheo Feliciano and Abicu featuring Tito Gonzalez are currently receiving airplay in Puerto Rico and throughout the Northeast of the U.S with much success.

This is one production all hardcore Salsa lovers cannot miss. Eddie is also presently showcasing and featuring his talent with Jazz artists like Lou Caputo, Dave Chamberlin, Joe Battaglia and Pucho & Latin Soul Brothers.

As one of the most sought after conga players, Eddie will continue to build his legend as a skilled clinician who shares his limitless knowledge of music to congueros and percussionists around the world.

Tempo Latino 2023

Tempo Latino is a music festival held in Vic-Fezensac, France, in the region of Gers in Gascony it is the first and the greatest Latin American and Afro-Cuban music festival of the summer in Europe. The festival was founded in 1994 and has been held annually since then.

“In 2020 and 2021, the festival was only interrupted for two consecutive years due to the containment of the new crown pneumonia (COVID-19) epidemic.”

With around 600 volunteers from all over the city for four days of intense activities and an audience of around 60,000 people from all over the world.

Tempo Latino offers a variety of Latin American and Afro-Cuban music, including Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, Cumbia, Merengue, Rumba, Latin-jazz, Reggaeton and more. The festival also features dance workshops, food stalls and other cultural events.

International performers and instructors from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, Africa, the United States (primarily New York, Miami, and California), and Europe have participated in a number of concerts and workshops

Tempo Latino has grown from a small festival to one of the most important Latin American music festivals in Europe. The festival hosts some of the biggest names in Latin music, including Celia Cruz, Ruben Blades, Eddie Palmieri, Oscar D’ León, Johnny Pacheco, Adalberto Álvarez, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, Kassav, Totó la Momposina, and Los Van Van. Tempo Latino has also helped advance the careers of many new artists.

Eric Duffau

The current director of Tempo Latino is Eric Duffau from Toulouse, France. He is also the founder of the music festival which he started in 1994. A passionate lover of Latin American and Afro-Cuban music, Dufour devoted his life to promoting this music to a wider audience and serves on the board of the French Association for the Promotion of Latin Music (AFMPL).

Dufoe was a tireless promoter of Latin American and Afro-Cuban music. He travels the world in search of new talent and works hard to make Tempo Latino a major cultural event. He is a passionate advocate of Latin music and works to bring this music to a wider audience.

Dufour graduated from the National School of Arts and Crafts (ENSAM) in Paris. In the early 1980s he worked as a DJ, during which time he became interested in Latin American and Afro-Cuban music. In 1989, he decided to create a festival to showcase this music and Tempo Latino was born.

Antonio Cartagena is an acclaimed artist, leaving the name of Peru on high all over the world

Antonio Cartagena is one of our best bastions who was born artistically in 1990 from a humble family with Afro-Peruvian roots.

Born in the Constitutional province of Callao (Bellavista) and having studied higher education in the National Police of Peru and half of career in the course of Psychology at the University San Martin.

Being able more the art is consecrated presenting his first success “Sin Ti” belonging in that instant to the Orchestra Peru Salsa All Star at the same time is invited to record songs like Niña and Tengo Todo Execto a Ti by the Orchestra of the Prestigious Oscar “Pitín” Sanchez La Sensual 990 achieving a greater acceptance the demands of work.

They were not made to wait in all the Peruvian literal for such reason is that Antonio Cartagena is traced important goals as the conquest of other countries reason others so that in 1991 produces his first album as a soloist with 10 songs where they highlighted songs like; Sedúceme and Necesito un Amor.

Becoming known in countries such as Colombia, Venezuela and part of the United States.

In 1992 he launches to the market a fresh and romantic Salsa where he highlights songs like Y que Tiene el and M Dueña; from there he reaffirms the internationalization being hired for a tour in the United States with all his group visiting places like New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Virginia, Dallas, Texas, San Diego, among others.

Then in 1993 he is hired by the prestigious international record company RMM of Mr. Ralph Mercado, one of the biggest salsa producers in the world; recording his first international album entitled Dime Que Si, where the most outstanding songs are Apaga La Luz and Perdone Querida.

To perform in dream stages such as Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden and Miami Arenas, alternating with many stars such as Oscar Leon, Van Lester, India, Marc Anthony, Tito Puente, Cheo Feliciano, Ismael Miranda, Celia Cruz, Domingo Quiñonez, Ray de la Paz, Tony Vega, Ray Sepulveda, Johnny Rivera, Tito Nieves, Jose Alberto el Canario, Luis “Perico” Ortiz, Giovanni Hidalgo, and an innumerable list of the greats of the firmament of the salsa market. The tour continued to include Canada, Panama, Venezuela, Colombia, Santo Domingo, Puerto Rico and Argentina.

These were events that marked a milestone in the vertiginous career of the artist; who arrives in his country after three years of coming and going; with a production titled Punto de Vista (1996), where he consecrates himself with the songs Si Tu No Estas and Pídele Perdón, successfully placing himself at the threshold of his career in his own country.

Already in 1997 he wants to impose the criollismo converting famous and traditional waltzes of our country in salsa; Disc that made him known all over the world even in Europe, presenting himself in stages of Germany, France, Holland, Italy, Switzerland, Spain among others.

In the year 2000 and without stopping touring nationally and internationally, Antonio Cartagena produced a new album which highlights the theme Nadie Quien te Quiera como Yo.

Then in 2001 he travels to New York to produce an album titled Volveré, with songs such as Ni Siquiera, giving much to talk about in that country and in Latin America, visiting countries such as the United States, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, etc.

In 2005 he presents a renewed and updated product imposing themes such as Salsa Regaee, titled No Me Digas Que No, placing himself in the first places of our musical environment.

Antonio Cartagena, is one of our best internationally recognized bastions, who is going through his best moment, considered in salsa as the best exponent of music in his genre and winner for this year of a number of awards such as: Nominated for Best Interpreter of the year in the salsa music genre.

Cartagena is an acclaimed artist, leaving the name of Peru on high all over the world.
