Fabrizio Zoro had the magnificent idea of making music, returning to the sound of the 70’s for dancers with a modern sound and, at the same, time of the golden age of salsa in New York.

With two productions made with high quality and an original and rich sound in Afro-Caribbean rhythms.

The two titled albums, Returning to Guaguanco in 2013 and Joseito in 2016, have given him a seat in the best dance halls across the European continent and thanks to all his successes, the orchestra is recognized worldwide as one of the best Salsa groupings for the dancer.

The original compositions by the hand of  Fabrizio  Zoro founder, director and performer of the bongo, bell and guiro, carrying Afro-Caribbean Rhythms in the soul, at the same time, Fabrizio tells us that Cuba is the most important musical novelty in the whole basin from the Caribbean and the world and for this reason they returned to the origins of the Traditional Salsa with a musical work entitled “Cuban Session” dedicated to typical rhythms of the Big Island such as Timba, the Cuban Son and the Traditional Changüí.

The musical arrangements of the productions were prepared by Fabrizio and Marco Puma, the official pianist of the orchestra and, also, known as the best-known Italian bachatero in the world, but with this album he has shown that his first passion stays within the key that beats in his immense salsa soul.

In their ten years of experience, they have been awarded the Honorable Mention USA and Songwriting Competition awards in 2014.

The title is deliberately left in Italian to indicate the country of origin of La Maxima 79 and to indicate that Salsa today has become something Global with orchestras and dancers from all over the world under one family.

La Candela Salsa Orchestra, the band is made up of eight musicians settled in Tenerife Canary Islands

La Candela is a small independent orchestra that in recent years has made a place for itself among the preferences of salsa dancers.

Her proposal is aimed at “hooking” the dancer with the original rhythms of salsa such as son montuno, guaguancó, mambo or chachachá, recovering the sound of the era in which what is known today as Salsa was forged.

The band is made up of eight musicians based in Tenerife (Canary Islands).

Its target audience is the salsa dancer on1 & on2, a great consumer of this type of music.

However, they have also conquered the hearts of the salsa music lovers who are staunch consumers of hard sauce.

The live La Candela show is a roller coaster of sensations that aims to spread joy and good vibes with a varied repertoire in terms of the danceable rhythms that are included within the salsa genre.

With him they have been presented in Spain and in other European countries such as Germany or Switzerland throughout these five years of activity.

La Candela’s style is inspired by the repertoire and execution style of the master Joe Cuba and his Sextet.

They have brought back to life some of their best classic songs that are still a reference for the dancer today.

With this spirit, her first musical project was born: On Fire, which was released in November 2015 and was a very good business card.

The album includes some classic songs by maestro Joe Cuba, such as “La Palomilla”, “Clave Mambo” or “El Ritmo de Joe Cuba”, along with self-written songs such as our first two singles, entitled “Es Guaguancó” and “For her”.

In 2017 and thanks to the executive production of Batlei Productions, a new project by La Candela was born with a closer sound and with many new features, without leaving behind our essence, headed by the first single titled “Se Prentó”, On Time moves between the primitive and the new, rescuing jewels and offering deserved tributes to some of the great pioneers of Afro-Cuban danceable music, like Tito Rodríguez or Frank Grillo “Machito”.

They are currently preparing what will be their third studio album with a new line-up of Musicians

Pirisalsa Orchestra in Venezuela

Music is the result of the creation of a rhythm that tries to convey a message that the artists give to their audience and depending on the voice, the lyrics, the instruments and above all the desire to convey that feeling, they make people want to listen to it and dance to it. The Orchestras became known for being dynamic groups, creators of rhythms and entertainers of the parties; something that cannot be replaced by a DJ or digital music, since recorded music and live music are two different things.

In the state of Falcón, Venezuela is the Piritu Group, who make up the Pirisalsa Orchestra, they are a group of talented young people who, despite their short ages, know how to transmit the flavor of Salsa to their audience. They arose and were educated in schools and through the selection of the most outstanding children in music, they gave birth little by little to the orchestra, being a pleasant and rhythmic sound to the public to date, not to mention that it is a group with many followers full of dreams and musical desires. They mention that “since our first presentation on October 19, 2011 to date we have not stopped working …”.

Currently his manager is Frank Molina, he says “that as a manager whenever he discovers a rough diamond project what he wants is to make it shine to achieve and achieve the dreams of each member and he turns it into a single dream, because the Pirisalsa orchestra is a family … the goal is to get our work to be recognized both nationally and internationally, I have been working for some time, spreading this project both on radio, television and social networks, we also have the support of many artists who believe in this draft. These young people are admirable because at their young ages they decided on this genre that is Salsa ”.

The Pirisalsa Orchestra plays SALSA, with a soft style in its message and its melody, despite the fact that the rhythm is very moving, thanks to the percussion instruments, showing us and maintaining in its music its Latin, Afro-descendant, Caribbean roots.

They have had the opportunity to participate in several important events in Venezuela, such as the PDVSA Salsa Festival held in La Estancia, Caracas in two editions, where they managed to share with great bastions of this genre throughout Venezuela, especially in Caracas, there were also a Festival in Maracay, Aragua and recently at the Whatuyusei Festival in Punto Fijo, Falcón, where they shared with artists such as Omar Enrique, La Melodía Perfecta, Gustavo Eli, Los Bois Servando and Florentino, among others.

However, their goal and desire is to take their music throughout Venezuela and abroad so that the whole world listens to them, appreciates their talent and can be projected as an orchestra, since being on the stage in a presentation they sing full of feeling of love but that if with great elegance, with a fresh, tender language, full of emotion and kindness, but always transmitting his deep love for his homeland Venezuela, being the members of the orchestra mostly young people and children from the town of Piritu, Falcón.

The Pirisalsa Orchestra and its Manager Frank Colina gave a message to all the new talents, which says “if you have a musical dream, don’t let difficulties stop your path, believe in your virtues, try to be yourself, don’t copy Nobody, be original, offer your own proposal and believe deeply in it, do not stop no matter how harsh the circumstances, fight tirelessly until you break the barriers and achieve your goals. He who perseveres reaches ”.

Juan Karlos Jiménez talks about his orchestra Salsa Nueva Band and freelance career

Los Angeles is an inexhaustible source of Latin talent and this is proven every day with a large number of singers, musicians and groups that give all for all in each of their performances, with which they manage to earn a privileged place in the city and California’s music scene.    

On this occasion, we talked with the great Mexican percussionist Juan Karlos Jimenez, with whom we had the privilege of making contact to learn more about his career and contributions to Latin music in US territory.

Juan Karlos’ beginnings in music   

Juan Karlos was born in Veracruz, place he describes as ”one of the most salsa-loving cities in Mexico”. The first musical influence in the artist’s life has been his own father, who played a lot of Cuban music of the time when Juan Karlos was still a child, and among his favorite groups and artists were La Orquesta Aragón and Tito Puente. 

Of his four brothers, he was the only one who devoted himself to music professionally and wanted to take salsa as a foundation, being something exceedingly rare for a Mexican, since most of the population does not usually see this genre as part of the typical music of the country. However, Juan Karlos also points out that, since Veracruz is located in the tropical part of the country, the city has a lot of Caribbean musical influence. This was one of the reasons that led the artist to become so passionate about salsa. 

In addition to music, he also studied a degree in communication and graphic design at the Universidad del Valle de Atemajac, Guadalajara. As for the communication part, being a 13-year-old boy, he began working at a radio station, which would be the beginning of interest he would have in the not too distant future for locution in a much more formal way. This led him to work in very prestigious places in Mexico such as Televisa Radio, giving him the necessary experience to know how to handle himself as a musician in relation to the media when he would promote his orchestra years later.   

While I was university studying, I worked in a music store and one day I had to serve to the Cuban Afro-jazz singer Rosalía de Cuba, who invited me to attend Cuban nights of which she was part of in restaurants and clubs in Guadalajara. One night, I was encouraged to go and started playing with one of the trios that performed that day and the leader of the group was so fascinated with my skills as a percussionist that he hired me permanently in exchange for 150 Mexican pesos per performance” said Juan Karlos about his time as a student.   

He also pointed out that in order to reach such a good level, he took a few classes with the late Cuban arranger, composer and bongocero Adalberto Alvarez, leader of the group Son 14, thanks to whom he was able to play percussion so efficiently.   

Today, he exercises his skills as a graphic designer with his orchestra Sangre Nueva Band, since he is the one who creates the album covers, flyers and artwork in general related to his musical project.

Moving to the United States   

When Juan Karlos was just going to form his first band in Guadalajara, he met Maika Miller, who played for the Mexico’s Philharmonic orchestra and would be his partner for several years. Some time after they married, Milka was offered a master’s degree in Los Angeles and asked her husband to go with her, to which he gladly accepted because of the new opportunities he would have in his new home.   

A few years later, he retried creating his group in her new city of residence after 15 years of hard work. And while Juan Karlos and Milka are no longer a couple, they continue to be part of the same musical project, which they have baptized Sangre Nueva Band.   

However, in order to reach that point, he had to gain a lot of experience playing and perfecting his technique, but fortunately, many groups gave him the opportunity to make a living and be better every day at what he did, such as Conjunto Son 14, Carache, Santiago de Cuba, Rosalía de Cuba, Johnny Blas Y Afro Libre Orquesta, La Orquesta de Yari Moré, Tabaco y Ron, among others. 

His first attempt at creating an orchestra was Jazz Son, which he founded with Maika in Mexico with the idea that his music would be based on the fusion of jazz and son, but his plans were postponed with their sudden move to the United States. Finally, in 2009, he managed to found the orchestra he has today, which he called Sangre Nueva Band. 

Even so, he never stopped playing independently for other artists such as Gilberto Santa Rosa, Victor Manuelle, Ruben Blades, Cheo Feliciano and many more.

Salsa Nueva Band   

One of the things that led Juan Karlos to create his own orchestra in Los Angeles was his desire to be the leader of his own project. He says he feels fortunate and grateful to be able to play with other orchestras, but in his own words ”it is better to be the head of mouse than the tail of a lion”. For the same reason, the idea of working in his own business without having to rely on other orchestras or singers was always in his head. 

When he decided it was time, he had a chance encounter with an Armenian musician who, from the street, saw his congas in the back of his car, asked him if he was a musician and invited him to play at a nightclub next Saturday. By that time, he had managed to gather six musicians playing three congas, a trumpet and a bongo. On the same day, a music entrepreneur asked him to play at another venue, so he ventured to enlarge the group and was asked to name the band, which he called ”Sangre Nueva”.  

Today, Juan Karlos is very happy with all the musicians who accompany him on this adventure and hopes that they will stay with him for a long time.

The Salsarria Orchestra was founded in Caracas on July 20, 2018 by its director, pianist, arranger Wilfredo Agustín Castro Sarmiento.

Salsarria Orchestra, in its beginnings, the orchestra performed at events in the capital city where it was widely accepted by the Caracas public.

Very important musicians of national and international stature have marched through the orchestra such as: Orlando Poleo (France), Orlando Watussi (Italy), Federico Betancourt, Luis Esteban Spain (El diablo del Son) among others.

The Salsarria orchestra has participated in important Latin music festivals such as the “Bicentennial Festival Suena Caracas” with a stage presentation.

In 2014 they recorded their first album entitled ¨De Vuelta aNuestras Raíces¨ having acceptance in the national and international salsa audience.

Its director and founder Wilfredo Castro is the composer and arranger of all the songs, I love you Caracas, Simply (international success), Las Leyendas, Carnival Comparsa for Caracas, Different Swing, That day you decide to return and in my neighborhood, and preparing his second record production.
