Marc Anthony Says to Europe Pa’llá Voy

The most influential tropical artist of the 21st century will offer a series of concerts in Spain, London, Holland, France, Italy, Switzerland, and Germany

Si hay una fiesta pa’llá voy. Si hay una rumba, pa’llá voy. Con buena música y alcohol, cuando me llamen, pa’llá voy. With this nice choir of the song Pa’llá Voy that gives its name to the 2022 tour, Marc Anthony begins the series of concerts in Europe.

The versatile Salsa artist with the record for the most albums sold worldwide begins a series of 17 concerts on Saturday, June 4th at the OVO Arena Wembley in London (United Kingdom) with a capacity for 12,500 people. His next stop will be in the Rotterdam city (Netherlands) in Ahoy, which can hold 15,818 salsa souls, followed by Paris (France), Assago (Italy), Zurich (Switzerland), Cologne (Germany), ending his tour in 11 cities from Spain (Cornellá de Llobregat, Santiago de Compostela, Madrid, Seville, Fuengirola, Calvia, Oviedo, Valencia, Murcia, Cadiz, and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria). In this last city, the capital of Gran Canaria, Marc Anthony will step onto the stage of the Granca Live Fest that will take place on July 8th at the stadium of this cosmopolitan city with a capacity of 31,250 people.

This same tour, postponed due to the pandemic in 2020, was initially called “Opus Tour” and a year later it changed to “World Tour” now it is titled “Pa’ lla voy Tour” the homonymous name of the thirteenth album of the singer of Puerto Rican descent released on March 4th, 2022.

Pa’lla Voy was recorded during the pandemic period in Miami (United States), the place of residence of Magnus, the company of the singer awarded the Order of the Golden Sphinx by Harvard. This studio album is made up of nine Salsa pieces (Pa’llá voy, Yo le mentí, No se quita, Nada de nada, Amor no tiene sexo, Mala, Gimme some more, El que te amaba y Si fuera fácil).

“When we got to the studio to record this album, I was full of inspiration. I had time to absorb these songs, fall in love with them, and create what you can now hear.” The artist wrote on his Facebook account on March 4th.

Anthony, with almost three decades of trajectory, has released two singles from this new production, “Mala” co-authored by Lenier and under the production of Sergio George (producer of his first hits), and co-produced by Motiff, recognized for his work with Víctor Manuelle, Gente de Zona, Natalia Jiménez among many others.

In the same way, “Pa’lla Voy” was released this year, his most important single, and that gives life to the tour. This first track of the album was written by the Venezuelan singer-songwriter brothers San Luis (Luigi and Santiago Castillo). Another piece of information that we can provide you is about the participation of the only woman on this album, the Venezuelan singer Elena Rose, co-writer of the song “Yo Le Mentí”. Andrea Elena Mangiamarchi, known by the artistic name Elena Rose, is known for working with urban singers like Becky G, Rauw Alejandro, Tini, and CNCO.

Yova Rodriguez The Jibarito of Mayagüez in the Bronx New York

Mayagüez, is one of the 78 municipalities into which the Island of Enchantment is politically divided: Puerto Rico.

It is the eighth in size and located at the western and central end of the island. Its name comes from a Taino voice that means according to the official historian of this town – Don Federico Cedó Alzamora, “Lugar Grande De Aguas”.

It was founded by the Spaniards and history records a September 18, 1760 with the name of “Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria”, in the territory already occupied by a rural population that was called “Sitio de Mayagüez”. The city has also been known as “Ciudad de Dios”, “La Atenas de Puerto Rico”, “La Sultana del Oeste”, “La Ciudad de las Aguas Puras”, “Capital de la Hospitalidad”, among other names.

Giovanni (Yova) Rodríguez Ruiz was born in Mayagüez, being the youngest of six siblings, raised alone by his mother Doña Delia Ruiz Crespo. At the age of 7 years old, he began singing Christmas aguinaldos and was influenced by his maternal uncle José Ruiz Crespo ¨Pipo El Indio¨ and his great uncle Antonio ¨Toño Ruiz¨ who played the Puerto Rican cuatro. At the age of fifteen he began his studies at the Ernesto Ramos Antonini Music School in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico.

It is here that he began his singing and percussion career and at the age of 16 he became the singer of the school’s band. In 2004 he began the project ¨Yova Rodríguez & his ensemble Sakao – Akà, Homenaje a Polo Montañez¨.

Since the release of his musical work Yova Rodríguez conjunto Sakao – Akà has become one of the most sought after ensembles in Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela and New York, since 2010 resides in the Big Apple, La Babel de Hierro N.Y, working in musical composition for singers of the stature, Danny Rivera, Herman Olivera, Marcial Isturiz, Orquesta Boricua Legends, and the great Andy Montañez among others and to mention a few and traveling through several Latin American countries with most of the artists already mentioned.

In 2016 he starts with his promotional song ¨Me Quedaré¨ with arrangements by trumpeter Nelson Jaime Gazu, a song dedicated to the thousands of Boricuas who have left their beloved Puerto Rico. In 2017 he composed the song ¨Mi Barrio¨ dedicated to his native neighborhood and was presented in Mayagüez, at the same time the Mayor José Guillermo Rodríguez gave him the keys of the city and a recognition, in the same year he composed the song ¨Borinquén se Levanta¨ with the participation of great luminaries of Salsa in New York such as El Pulpo Colon, Jhon Benítez, Luis Mangual, José Dávila among others and by the hand of the Cuban trumpeter and arranger Agustín Someillan Garcia, in January 2018 is presented in Medellín-Colombia in the outstanding local Son-Habana, returns to New York and composes the theme Medellín, is presented last June 23 with a resounding total success in the event a day of Salsa for Medellín.

Yova Rodriguez himself informs me that he is already preparing his fourth album with pianist and arranger Arturo Ortiz. And at the same time he belongs to the board of directors of the Galería de La Salsa in Spanish Harlem in New York.

Other themes that social networks have been responsible for spreading recently will see the light in the next production of Yova Rodriguez, the same that will be titled YOVA RODRIGUEZ ENTRE LOS PUEBLOS and will be part of this production the recent theme composed to the First Peruvian Port: El Callao; highlighting here the fact that Yova has never set foot in our territory but that has not been an impediment for his pen to recreate scenarios: neighborhoods, corners and, mainly, its people. As he says in his lyric “…he who knows about salsa, knows that it is enchanting there in the Chimpún Callao…”

We come to the final part of this biographical sketch, thanking Yova Rodriguez for his kindness in sharing with this server the data and images that accompany this publication.

We wanted to honor the musician, singer and composer, but without leaving aside the tremendous human being that our guest embodies, both as a son and brother, as a fellow professional musician and, especially, as a family man.

A facet that is hidden behind the public man (singer-songwriter) but that impresses greatly in Yova’s pen: first, when sharing a message in each of his lyrics; second, his constant attempts to honor his children Ariana and Kerby on a daily basis, taking as a guideline that old adage that says: “You preach by example”; finally his constant struggle to shorten the physical distances between them, something that surely his Muse manages to do.

For the year 2022 from the pen of the composer Yova is still in force.

Frankie Vázquez “El Sonero de todos los Barrios and still going strong” Guatacando

Efrain is a Puerto Rican Sonero Excélsior, he was born in Salinas in La Isla del Encanto.

His father gave him his first conga at the age of 10, and another one two years later, which allowed him to practice to the rhythm of his mother’s records: El Gran Combo, Cortijo and Eddie Palmieri.

His parents helped him to create his own band at the age of 16 “Los Generales” where he played congas; the band played concerts in his father’s restaurant. Suddenly replacing the singer of the orchestra, he becomes better and more popular. He then dedicated himself to singing, without giving up instruments such as congas, timbales, clave, maracas, güiro and bell.

He moved to New York ’77, debuted recording on Al Santiago’s production Fuego ’77 to Alegre by the young band of the same name; Al liner note Frankie described as “enthusiastic, energetic and full of life”, he always chorused and sang lead vocals on the cut “Nueva York”, his cousin David Sanchez handled the remaining lead vocals. Fuego ’77 lasted two years.

Frankie performs: “New York”, where his very young voice is barely recognizable:

In the others, David Sanchez sings and Frankie is on backing vocals. Both are thanked in the credits for having contributed to the sounds.

This album is a wonderful little one, no song disappoints, on the contrary there is a communicative energy from the first to the last song.

“Fuego 77” was a band of young people in their early 20s.

He then spent two years with Sonido Taiborí (Sánchez sang in chorus with Johnny Ortiz and Taiborí ’79 in Fania with lead singer Tito Nieves, founder Ortiz, an outstanding Puerto Rican composer, later left), a year and a half with Orquesta Calidad and intermittently worked for three years with Orquesta Metropolitana.

He joined the “Conjunto Wayne Gorbea Salsa” for five years, providing lead vocals and güiro, accompanying one of the highlights of the Montuno sessions. He replaced Herman Olivera as singer with Manny Oquendo and his “Conjunto Libre” in December 1990, making his debut.

He partnered with pianist Martin Martin, bandleader of the magnificent “Los Soneros del Barrio” Orchestra in 1999.

He has sung with the Lebron Brothers for more than three years, as well as other spectacular company such as New swing Sextet, Leña Moncho, Tony Gonzalez, La Sonora Matancera, Frankie Morales, Delgado Jimmy, Joe Cuba, Jimmy Bosch, Spanish Harlem Orchestra and stop counting with his great success characterized.

He is currently one of the artists who has participated in countless recordings all over the world and even participated as a special guest in the group Dislocados de Ucrania.

His career is very rich and the list of his collaborations that we have just mentioned is not exhaustive.

We hope that the list will grow because we love his way of modulating his voice in each song, with a perfect diction, and his inspirations that enchant us in concert.

From Peru and based in France we have Wálter Antonio Rebatta Hinostroza is a brand new and spectacular percussionist.

We are honored to present in this new release, one of the most outstanding figures of Latin music, representing the brother country of Peru, who has put the name of the musicians born in Inca lands very high in the world.

With you, directly from France, we have as a special guest Wálter Antonio Rebatta Hinostroza, a brand new and spectacular percussionist, who was born on September 14, 1973, in Bella Vista, Callao, Peru, being artistically known as “El Chato”.

Welcome Wálter to Salsa Escrita “La Columna Salsera de Barquisimeto, Venezuela”. It is a great pleasure to have you as a special guest in International Salsa Magazine, www.SalsaGoogle.com.

Thank you very much to you, my friend, Professor Carlos, for the invitation to your well read and recognized column and I take this opportunity to give a sincere greeting to all Venezuelans who are like my brothers.

How did you start in music? Well, teacher in my neighborhood called Ventanilla, in Peru, I grew up and since I was a child I breathed musical air, where at the age of 6 years old I was already playing “El Cajon”, traditional Peruvian Creole instrument, under the tutelage of my older brother Kike Rebatta, who took me later to learn other percussion instruments and prepare me with music theory, and then enter the music school of the renowned teacher Edelmi Chavez, and thus join the ranks of the most renowned orchestras in my country, such as: La Iniciativa, Orquesta la Grande, Banana Latin Jazz, among others.

Wálter, which international orchestras and artists have you accompanied? I have accompanied and worked with “Los Hermanos Colón” from Puerto Rico and among many groups, I have had the honor of being on stage with my Venezuelan brothers, Hildemaro “El Sonero del Amor”, with whom I have a great friendship, as well as with the master timbalero Alfredo Villamizar, from whom I have learned a lot and from whom I must thank through his column Salsa Escrita. “Chato”, you are currently based in the French city of Grenoble and we would like to know how is the salsa movement, especially in Europe. In fact, professor, in 1995, I came to Europe with the “Orquesta Salsa Perú” and I met Mr. Rodolfo Guerra, with whom a great friendship was born and I became part of the “Orquesta Sincopa Latina”, directed by him, being present in his productions: Salsa que te pasa, Demasiado corazón, Mi bachata, Puerto Rico, Todo, Escándalo, Mi silencio, Mi toque, Habla conmigo and Azafata. Wálter, I have heard that you have accompanied great salsa artists in their presentations, tell me who? I have had the honor of accompanying the late Tito Gómez, Willie González, Luisito Carrión and the great Venezuelan sonero Orlando José Castillo “Watussi”.

Also, let me tell you professor, that I have worked in the Italian television Media Set, in the very popular program “Notte Vola”, also in 2002, I participated in the Tour of the Queen of Salsa, Celia Cruz, along with the orchestra of the prestigious world famous violinist Alfredo de La Fe.

Likewise, my friend Carlos, in 2004, I performed in numerous events with Latin jazz groups, among them “El Royal Cuba”, of the Cuban musician and singer Eduardo Céspedes.

In 2007, I participated in the prestigious and famous festival of San Remo with the singer Daniele Silvestri, with whom I have recorded in his productions. In 2009, I participated in the Italian tour “Terromotati Dil Abruzzo”, conducted by the famous singer Laura Pausini and later that same year I participated again in a tour in the United States for charity with Pausini again.

Excellent Wálter, and what can you tell us about the orchestra you are currently working with and what are your future projects? Professor Carlos, at present I am an official musician of the renowned orchestra “Mercadonegro” and in relation to my projects, is to form my own group and perhaps dabble in bachata, but without leaving aside the salsa, since living in Europe I have met many bachateros. And something very important, my friend Colmenárez, I am also working on the project of my Venezuelan compadre, the musician Edwin Sanz, whom I would like you to interview at some point.

Memo Arroyave, entre las voces más importantes e impecables del Caribe

Considered as one of the faithful representatives of Venezuelan salsa, the young vocalist Guillermo José “Memo” Arroyave, born on July 22nd in the city of Caracas, arrives to “Salsa Escrita” for an exclusive interview.

Memo Arroyave, continues to project himself with more and more quality and professionalism, characteristics that define him in the Caribbean music genre at the national and international levels.

In a pleasant and enjoyable conversation with Memo, he told us about his career and his current and future projects.

Memo Arroyave, welcome to Barquisimeto’s salsa column “Salsa Escrita”; it is a great pleasure for us to have you as our special guest and we would like you to tell us about your beginnings in your artistic career.

-Thank you Carlos for the opportunity you are giving me to reach your readers in a direct and fraternal way.

Memo Arroyave, among the most important and impeccable voices of the Caribbean

My beginnings in the world of music and show business date back approximately to 1996, when I was a student of the successful Venezuelan Rafa Galindo (R.I.P.D.), the musical legend of our country.

Then I ventured into the stages forming part of different groups in Caracas, such as Partitura Latina, Orquesta Gente Novel, Orquesta Ensueños, Galaxy Latin Band, El Código Salsero, among others.

-Memo, which artists have you shared the stage with, what can you tell us about them? Professor Carlos, I have had the opportunity to share the stage and accompany, on occasions, as a soloist and others as a backing vocalist, national and international artists of the stature of: Andy Montañez, Ismael Miranda, Viti Ruiz, Christian Fernandez, Adalberto Santiago, Pupy Santiago, Paquito Guzman, Roberto Blades, Jose Mangual Jr, Max Torres, Wichy Camacho, Willman Cano, Nino Segarra, Nelson Arrieta, Marcial Istúriz, Mandinga Star Band, Wílmer Lozano, Wiwi Buznego, Wílmer Cobos, Cheo Valenzuela, Miguel Araujo, Erick Franchesky, Irving Manuel, Ángel Flores, Samir Bazzi, Manuel Guerra y su Orquesta, and in December 2019, I shared the stage with Hermán Olivera, Luisito Carrión and Frankie Vásquez.

-Regarding current projects, what can you tell us about them? I am part of several projects simultaneously my friend Carlos, among which stand out: Orquesta Puma Band, Victor Cardona y la Máquina de la Salsa, La Rumba Sonora de New York, Afro Códigos and recently I was invited to participate in the 10th Anniversary album of “Los Rumberos del Callejón”.

Well Memo, for all that you have given us to know about your talent and dedication, you are an obligatory reference of the salsa show and we would like to know about your most recent and future projects.

-In fact, I recently recorded and released the song “Si falta el Aire”, a composition by the Spaniard David Santisteban, with arrangements by Enmanuel “Cerebro” Romero and under my production.

Memo Arroyave, continues to project himself with increasing quality and professionalism.

It was recorded in Caracas, Mexico, Miami, and New York, mixed and mastered in the Venezuelan capital, as part of my first musical production. Other of my hits are: “Y lloré”, “No Puedo estar sin ti”, which I did a duet with Rafael “El Pollo” Brito. And as a scoop for your salsa column “Salsa Escrita”, I already have the next promo ready and it is a duet with NG2 from Puerto Rico and last week was the release of the song with José Madera Niño “3º Mundo”, titled: “Me gustas pero…”, which is sounding strong and last year I recorded for a Colombian pianist, but he is based in Washington, United States, which made an album called “10” and among other singers participate: Rodrigo Mendoza, Mariana “La Sonora de Venezuela”, Marcial Istúriz, Gonzalo Díaz, Mike Barrios, which is a talentazo of Zulia state, who is currently in Mexico, my person and other people from other countries.

Soon I will be in the production that is in the process of mixing and where Argenis Carruyo, Oscar Arriaga, Wichi Camacho, and others also participate.

-Excellent Memo, I understand that in addition to your facet as a singer, you also dabble in the media?

That’s right professor, let me tell you that I am the nephew of Fernando Sosa Leal, I have done radio and television since 2002; I started with a radio program in the state of La Guaira, I was the director of the musicalization of Azul 95. 9 FM, then we did “Mundo Latino”, there I was as an animator with Fernando Sosa Leal and Luis Arturo in CMT, then in TVES, but I leave the project to devote myself more to my singing career and also went several times to Puerto Rico to the editions of the National Salsa Day, World Salsa Congress, to give coverage from there for all Venezuela and the Caribbean and recently as the producer of Strike 13 with Fernando Sosa Leal in his Bowling program for Meridiano TV.

Carlos, I wanted to thank you for the focus you give to the singer through your salsa column, if I may say individually and not so much as choristers, which of course is important, but in your work and interviews we have read the support and contribution you give to our musical productions and recordings with orchestras, since this way we make ourselves known to music lovers as well as to the public.

Finally, I want to thank you for your time and congratulate you for this work that you do with a lot of enthusiasm, with desire and that should be appreciated not only by me but by all musicians, artists who are giving it their all and that, if it were not for people like you, it would be even more difficult.
