Manuel “Pancho” Montanez. (Caracas, 1978), at the age of 14 he began to study drums privately with Professor José Antonio Mato. From 1996 to 2005 he studied drums with Professor Andrés Briceño.

In 1998 he began his studies at the “Escuela Superior de Música José Ángel Lamas” where he completed the first two years of Theory and Solfeggio and the first and second year of Academic Percussion under the tutelage of Professor Jorge Dayoub; also in the same year he entered the School of Arts of the Universidad Central de Venezuela, studying at that institution until 2000. In this date he was accepted at the University Institute of Musical Studies (IUDEM, currently UNEARTE), to study academic percussion at the university level under the direction of Professor Edgar Saume and in 2006 he developed in more depth the studies of the drums in the chair of Jazz at the same institution.

As a performer he has made several presentations in most of the national territory and abroad (Argentina, England, Mexico, Aruba, Germany, Japan, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Holland, Belgium) accompanying bands, singers and musicians in general of different genres (Victor Castillo, Nene Quintero, Biela da Costa, Natalia Barahona, Desorden Público, Mágica Mystery Band, Gonzalo Micó, etc.), and is a permanent member of the groups Jungla Boulevard and El Arca.

He teaches Academic Percussion and Drums at the Sistema de Orquestas Infantiles y Juveniles de Venezuela (San Antonio de los Altos), where he also founded the San Antonio Big Band Jazz, with young people between 9 and 17 years old with the intention of generating a seedbed of young jazz players.

In 2015 he published his first album titled IMPROVISTO. He is accompanied in this recording by Heriberto Rojas (Bass), Jesús Azócar (Piano) and Juanma Trujillo (Guitar), and has the special participation of the master Gerry Weil (Fender Rhodes) in the song “Problemas Paralelos”; together with Horacio Blanco they make “Moscas”, an original song by Desorden Público and with José Alejandro Delgado he performs a duet of voice and drums on a poem entitled “Mi nombre es…”.

He is currently pursuing his PhD studies at the University of Valencia, after having completed his Master’s studies at Berklee College of Music, Valencia Campus, in the “Master in Contemporary Performance” program, in Valencia, Spain.

Manny Mieles Singer, Musician, Arranger and Producer

From his own recording studio located in New York, the talented Manny Mieles has been providing good music to an extensive fan base around the night within their respective cities and alternating with big ones within the tropical market.

Born in New York City to Puerto Rican parents, Manuel “Manny” Mieles began his career as a pianist at the age of 15.

In 1983, he joined the Orquesta Generación and remained with it for four years. In 1987, he joined the Orquesta Herencia Latina as a lead singer. That same year he recorded his first musical production with Conjunto Imagen entitled “Algo Nuevo” since then Manny Mieles has become a sensation in the salsa genre.

Years later, he collaborated as lead singer with Johnny Ray “Salsa con Clase”, his performance within the salsa market has given him the privilege of sharing on the stage and being part of the musical repertoire of great artists and salsa legends such as; Marvin Santiago, Ismael Miranda, Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz (Carnegie Hall. NY), Hector Tricoche and Lalo Rodriguez among others.

And in other occasions, he has participated in tours of artists like Frankie Negrón, Nino Segarra, Anthony Cruz, Roberto Blades, Viti Ruiz, Paquito Guzmán, Michael Stuart, and artists of the LP signature. All-Stars.

Manny Mieles participated in 2005 in the song recorded by the great singer Ray Villegas titled “Puerto Rico” which has become an anthem for the inhabitants of the island of enchantment and the entire world; and which is heard as a voice of encouragement for all Puerto Ricans not to let themselves be defeated by difficult moments that are happening in the present.

His dedication and professionalism have led him to participate in various festivals within AND outside of New York City, recreational parks, beaches and private events, such as “The 116th Street Festival”, “South Street Seaport” “The National Puerto Rican Day Parade”, “NBC Stage”, “Univision” and “Telemundo”, among others.

He also worked with Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez in the film “El Cantante The Story”, based on the life of the legendary “Cantante de los Cantantes”, Hector Lavoe. In his spare time Manny Mieles is a producer, composer, sound engineer and chorus player.

In 2006 he produced and recorded the production “Paso de Gigante” of the conguero “Pequeño Johnny” and his own production “Sabrosexy Plin”, where the song “Llego el Amor” stands out.

At present Manny Mieles is part of the presentations of the artists of the new movement of the Dominican salsa within the United States, such as Yiyo Sarante, Michell, Alex Matos, Asdrubal, David Kada and Sexappeal, among others.

In July 2015 the new production Manny Mieles mi princesa was released with the first song that was titled.

Willie Colon’s in Concert – Mexico City, Mexico 2021

The 50th anniversary of Willie Colón’s musical career will be celebrated in the National Auditorium in Mexico City.

William Anthony Colón Colón Román, better known as Willie Colón, was born in New York City, United States on April 28, 1950, his passion and dedication were highlighted in the salsa genre, being a salsa musician, singer, American composer of Puerto Rican origin which gives him a special touch, since salsa is characterized by the abundant use of percussion (clave, maracas, conga, bongo, tambora, cowbell, among others). This is inherited from the African musical influence mixed with jazz, which permeated the Latin American Caribbean since the colonial times and gained high popularity in 1960 for being the novelty of the moment in the lowest and highest society, starting in New York with Dominican singer Johnny Pacheco.

In the case of Willie Colón as a musician, he has been characterized by the fusion of rhythms such as son, mambo, guaracha, cha cha cha, guajira, Colombian cumbia, rumba, Venezuelan joropo, among others; He was also known as the master trombonist, blended various Caribbean African, and urban rhythms, formed one of the most important teams of Latin music of the seventies with vocalist Hector Lavoe and is considered one of the pioneers in the development of the genuine salsa movement in the late sixties and the early seventies.

His music, which has been a great influence on modern Latin Jazz, because it reflects a traditional lyrical rhythm and generates the goodbye and the hope as he was forced to leave his country to settle in the United States, and during his musical career, he got 11 Grammy nominations and received 15 gold and 5 platinum records.

Virtuoso Multi-Percussionist Orlando Poleo from Sarria to the World.

Orlando Poleo with a long trajectory in Venezuela, he has been standing out for his talent with a music that develops between jazz, Cuban son and Afro-Venezuelan rhythms.

He learned to master the Afro-Venezuelan percussion of Barlovento with one of his best disciples, the great percussionist Miguel Urbina.

In 1987, he moved to Cuba, where he deepened his knowledge of Afro-Cuban rhythms, with emphasis on bata drumming.

Orlando Poleo learns to play Afro-Puerto Rican percussion, bomba and plena with Cachete Maldonado, Giovanni Hidalgo and Anthony Carrillo.

With his group “Chaworo“, created in Paris and joined in 1997 by the Venezuelan vocalist Carlos Esposito, Orlando Poléo plays in many festivals, including the famous “Jazz in Marciac”.

The famous French singer Bernard Lavilliers invites him to the “Francofolies de Spa”, Belgium, and to the Arenas de Nîmes. On December 10, 1998, he participates with Tracy Chapman, Youssou N’Dour, Peter Gabriel, Bruce Springsteen, Kassav’, among others, in the great celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of Amnesty International in Paris-Bercy.

He performs with Chaworo at the Midem in Cannes in 1999 and obtains a real triumph. In Deauville, he shares the bill of the festival “Swing in Deauville” with Joe Cocker and Joan Baez.

Orlando Poleo, is considered one of the best percussionists of the Latin jazz movement worldwide and has recorded three albums distributed by Sony France: “El buen camino“, “Sangre Negra” and “Lo bueno de la vida” and the fourth album “Curate” distributed by the Cacao Musica label.

In France, in a town two hours away from the capital, Saint Cyr Sur Loire, there is a percussion classroom in a classical music school that bears his name.

Orlando, continues to teach Afro-Caribbean percussion in France and also in the whole world he is requested to give master classes, workshops, etc.

In 2004 Orlando creates Afrovenezuelajazz to continue evolving in the fusion of various styles of traditional Venezuelan music such as La Fulía and Quitipla de Barlovento, Joropo, La gaita de furro de Maracaibo and other Latin American styles with Jazz and other musical horizons using traditional Venezuelan percussion instruments and other Caribbean countries, most of the repertoire of the group is completely original and that is another interesting feature of this project.

It is important to highlight that in 2012, the Amphitheater “ORLANDO POLEO” was inaugurated in the Endogenous Nucleus “Tiuna El Fuerte” located in the parish of El Valle de Caracas.

In that same year he was invited by the Tokun Orchestra to accompany figures of the stature of Larry Harlow, José Alberto “El Canario”, Tito Allen, Luigi Texidor and Alfredo De La Fe for two memorable concerts.

Orlando Poleo receives on May 16, 2016 another great recognition from the French Senate (Senate medal) for his eminent contribution to the relations between Venezuela and France and is invited along with the other awardees from the other Latin American countries to a reception at the Palais de L’Élysée (presidential palace) by the former President of France Francois Hollande.

Since 2015 he is part of the famed group of the great Cuban flutist Orlando “maraca” Valle and his Latin Jazz All Stars and have toured the United States, France, Lithuania, and Havana Cuba.

He is currently recording his fifth album and is scheduled for release in summer 2019.

Orlando was invited to give a musical conservatory on March 2, 2018 at Unearte.

Javier Plaza “With Coconut Flavor”

From the 23 de Enero neighborhood of Caracas to Cologne – Germany

October 4, 1952: Javier Ernesto Plaza Castillo was born in the Tiro al Blanco area of the Sarría neighborhood in Caracas, Venezuela. He is a musician, percussionist, singer, and composer.

Javier Plaza is a great and veteran Venezuelan sonero that was trained in the 23 de Enero parish.

He started his professional career as a member of groups such as Rumbón 10, Sexteto Juventud, and Enrique “Culebra” Iriarte y Su Orquesta. It was “Culebra” who allowed him to be one of the singers of the orchestra.

He participated in records from different groups such as José Rosario y Sus Soneros, Federico y Su Combo, and El Clan de Victor.

Javier visited Cali to promote his album “Con Sabor a Coco” and had the opportunity to listen to his live music accompanied by the Coimbre Orchestra formed by young musicians from Cali at the Baile Swing Latino Academy in March 2011. In the early ’80s, Plaza created his band called Orquesta Café in the company of Joe Ruiz and Carlos Espósito, making possible the recording of one of his most important songs.

Sometime later, he participated in the group called Combo Ventú established in Paris.

In Europe, he participated in different groups and collaborated in recordings and performances of other artists.

Thanks to the performances with the Combo Ventú group, the Conexión Latina Orquesta’s director, contacted him, he has continued to remain in this orchestra for 18 years, being now the most ancient musician of the group.

He has also participated in groups such as: Kimbiza, La Charanga Nueva de Alfredo Cutuflá, pianist Francisco Zumaqué, Salsamanía, César “Chino” Pérez and Gerardo Rosales. All this without dropping his responsibilities to the Conexión Latina orchestra.

Thanks to the orchestra, he has had the opportunity to accompany international figures in Latin music such as Luis Perico Ortiz, Ismael Miranda, Adalberto Santiago, and Camilo Azuquita, among others.

Since 1992, Javier Plaza has been managing his personal project, which is the Son-Risa Orchestra. Additional to that, he has performed two productions titled “Libre Soy” and “Mi Música” and most of the songs of his authorship.

While growing up, music was one of the most important things, and practiced different instruments with friends and family. Among those friends were future stars such as Bitervo Plaza, José “Cheo” Navarro, and Alfredo “Cutuflá” Franchesqui.

In the mid-’70s, his career took off when he joined different Latin bands such as Rumbón 10, Sexteto Juventud, and Enrique “Culebra” Iriarte, and his orchestra; this allows him to open the doors to a new recording market from the hand of producer Víctor Mendoza.

After many years, Alfredo Cutuflá invited him to join the Combo Ventú group in Paris with other Venezuelan musicians.

This is when Plaza started a career in Europe playing with different bands and in projects by other artists.
