Ignacio Berroa

Ignacio Berroa has been recognized as one of the greatest drummers of our times. He was included in the 2011 Mp3 compilation entitled “Jazz Drumming Legends” which features some of the most renowned drummers in Jazz history.

Ignacio Berroa was born in Havana Cuba on July 8 1953. He began his musical education at age 11 at the National School of Arts and subsequently at Havana’s National Conservatory, beginning his professional career in 1970. By 1975 Ignacio had become Cuba’s most sought after drummer.

In 1980 he left his country during the Mariel boatlift and settled in New York City where he met the great Cuban musician Mario Bauza who introduced him to Dizzy Gillespie. In August 1981 Gillespie invited Ignacio to join his quartet.

Ignacio Berroa also took part of all the important bands Gillespie assembled during that decade such as: The Dizzy Gillespie 70th Anniversary Big Band, The Dizzy Gillespie All Stars Big Band and the Grammy Award winner, United Nation Orchestra. This relation lasted until Dizzy’s death.

Jazz Legend Dizzy Gillespie best defined Ignacio as: “… the only Latin drummer in the world in the history of American music that intimately knows both worlds: his native Afro Cuban music as well as Jazz…”As an author and a renowned educator he made his mark with the instructional video: Mastering the Art of Afro–Cuban Drumming as well as the books: Groovin’ in Clave and A New Way of Groovin’. He also conducts clinics and master classes around the world.

As a leader, his album“ Codes” was released in 2007 under Blue Note Records. In 2007 Codes was Grammy nominated, winning a Danish Music Award as best International Jazz Album.

His second album as a leader “Heritage & Passion” was released in 2014 under 5Passion. Ignacio has recorded and played with musicians of the stature of: McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis, Freddie Hubbard, Clark Terry, Jackie McLean, Jimmy Heath, James Moody, Jon Faddis, Slide Hampton, Michael Brecker, Milt Jackson, Jaco Pastorius, Ron Carter, Charlie Haden, Tito Puente, Mario Bauzá, Lalo Schifrin, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Danilo Perez, David Sanchez, Michel Camilo, Chico Bouarque, Gilberto Gil, Ivan Lins, Joao Bosco, Lenny Andrade, Lincoln Center Orchestra, WDR Big Band and BBC Big Band to name a few.

Luis “Papo” Marquez, Musician, singer, songwriter and producer

This son of music, born on December 18, 1972, in the Pinar del Río Cuba Province, was raised between notes and chords that led him to be the artist he is today, known as Luis “Papo” Marquez, and considered a complete musician: trumpeter, composer, arranger, singer and music producer.

As a child, he contemplated music as his environment, profession and way of life, thanks to his family who instilled in him all the passion for art and provided him with the tools to develop his knowledge. He began his trumpet studies at the age of 8 (eight) and, at 15 (fifteen), he already practiced professionally as a trumpet player in groups such as the Bella Mar Orchestra, Grupo Cumbre, musical grouping Los Trimmers, Grupo Íreme and Ricardo Hechemendía, in Pinar del Río and Havana.

At 19 (nineteen) he emigrated with his family to Venezuela, a country that opened the doors for his artistic consolidation, where he managed to make art on a large scale with the execution of his instrument and took the first steps within the world of composition and production.

“In Cuba, love and passion for music through the trumpet was born from me, but it was in Venezuela where I had, for the first time, the opportunity to look closely at how the art of composition worked. Suddenly, I was sitting in front of a piano and reading music sheet, trying to understand how they worked and falling in love with the trade. ” LPM

This is how he started a successful career, thanks to his perseverance and permanent study, having the opportunity to play his trumpet with Venezuelan orchestras such as Mauricio Silva, Erick Franchesky, Naty and his Orchestra, Biella Da Costa, Ilan Chester, Sergio Pérez, Porfi Jimenez , Alfredo Naranjo, Orlando Poleo, Los Incorregibles, Mulato, Repicao and Guaco.

He continues forging his path and arrives in Miami, where he expands his international path with artists such as Jon Secada, Bacilos, Willy Chirino, Oscar D ‘León, Juan Gabriel, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Jerry Rivera, Celia Cruz, Cheo Feliciano, Chayanne, José Luís Quintana “Changuito”, Jose Alberto “El Canario”, Víctor Manuel, among others, with whom he has the opportunity to present himself as a trumpeter and in some cases, as arranger and producer.

One of his biggest recognitions has been the delivery of an American Grammy Award for best music producer with the album “Son del Alma” by Willy Chirino; however, for LPM, the recognitions come day by day with the opportunity to make the music that moves and elevates them in their personal and artistic satisfaction.

Luis Papo Márquez defines himself as a “citizen of the world” born in Cuba and with a Cuban-Venezuelan heart. Work and discipline are his pillars to get ahead and his greatest passion will always be “creating music that makes the world move”.

From the hand of Dorelys Rodriguez, a former dancer who Since she was 7 years old, she has evidenced the world of dance, going from ballet, flamenco, salsa among other genres, I always dream of achieving many things in the world of dance, hence it will never be possible to separate from this beautiful discipline.

In her professional studies and work experience in the world of Marketing, she was able to devise a proposal that would marry her great passions, her line of work in the world of sales and her passion for dance, from which DomiDance emerged.

In the United States, Dorelys saw the opportunity to exploit her abilities to create a brand, a product, an object that would give her a new entrepreneurial and business life, without forgetting the main point of her idea, to be what the dancer needs, to reach your punctual needs with a range of high quality products at affordable prices for everyone, from the professional to the beginner who ventures into any discipline of this art.

Domi Dance since 2019 managed to position itself in many of the corners of the dance, starting with its first product presented the openwork stockings, little by little it developed innovative strategies to enter the commercial game, facing large established brands in the American market, it was able to enter through of online sales, a channel that allowed it to reach many people due to the boom in purchases through the web.

The brand claims to present its products under a line of first-class raw materials, quality is the main object in its line, they seek to offer quality above any point, customers can be sure of acquiring an object that will not be easy to beat.

Domi dance is not a sales space for other products, they are manufacturers, they are exclusive when designing products for their brand, they generate new ideas based on the direct experience of the dancer, they are concerned with investigating the experiences lived with the use of clothing and footwear in the scene, an element that drives them as a brand concerned with giving the artist what he needs.

To date, it has a top-level range of textiles, ballet shoes, urban clothing and much more, all aimed at meeting needs in many disciplines. They continue betting on their sales framework through digital platforms such as Amazon, Ebay, social networks such as Instagram, Facebook, among others.

Miles Bould, Percussionist / Drummer

Miles Bould is currently MD and drummer for Shaun Escoffery

Miles Bould was born in London took up Saxophone and Clarinet at a young age and was strongly musically influenced by his father, a producer who had worked with such Jazz luminaries as Gil Evans, Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Tracey and Tubby Hayes – many of these great musicians went on to be family friends.

In particular Dizzy noticed Miles’ musical passion turn specifically to percussion at around 10 years old and set him on his path as a percussionist by giving him three of his touring congas.

At age 15 Miles was jamming and working in clubs playing various styles of music; predominantly Latin, Jazz, Funk and Reggae.

He then joined his first serious Funk band ‘Sava Jazz’. Through that followed a meeting with guitarist Dominic Miller (Sting).

Dominic took Miles under his wing and they toured and have done many sessions together over the years. He was also spotted by Robert Palmer who he then began recording and gigging with.

He then met Julia Fordham who was very instrumental in helping Miles get more connected in the session scene. She hired him to tour and eventually record with her.

He went on to record and tour extensively with a broad spectrum of artists, including Sting, Daryl Hall, Joe Cocker, Level 42, Cher, Eternal, The Lighthouse Family, Julia Fordham, Incognito, The Pasadenas, The Beloved, Suggs, Shara Nelson, Simply Red etc. as both a percussionist and drummer.

He also recorded a sample CD with fellow percussionist Danny Cummings called ‘The Rhythm of Life’ which has been used by artists including Pat Metheny, George Michael, Brownstone, NYPD Blue.

It has also been used by many film composers. This was followed by another 2 sample CDs, Audiovirus a loop break beat collaboration with Miles and Mike Westergaard called ‘Intravenous’ and another specific drum and percussion CD by Miles called ‘The Progression’.

He also gigged with his own bands ‘Goosebump’, a Funk Rock band signed to Warner Chappell, and ‘Peoplespeak’ A Fusion project – Steps Ahead used one of their compositions ‘Agitate the Gravel’ for their 1992 album Ying Yang. He toured extensively with Billy Ocean and went on to co-write the title song on his 2010 album “Because I Love You”

The next few years saw Miles recording albums and gigging with more artists including quite a broad spectrum of artists including Beyonce, Michael Jackson, Joan Armatrading, Jermaine Jackson, Valerie Etienne (Galliano) Desert Eagle Discs, Gerard Presencer, Shaun Escoffery, Brand New Heavies, Russell Watson, Morcheeba, Daniel Beddingfield, Dominic Miller, Nigel Kennedy etc.

His current band ‘USONiC’ were nominated for a MOBO award in 2011 for best jazz act with their album ‘EVOLUTION’, which features Scott Henderson and Scott Kinsey of Tribal Tech.

Miles has his own professional recording studio where he currently carries out drum and percussion sessions remotely (full equipment spec on request).

Miles is touring and has just recorded a duet album with Dominic Miller for ECM records called “Silent Light”.

Miles is currently MD and drummer for Shaun Escoffery.

Since its inception in 1981, Blue Note has become one of the premier jazz clubs in the world and a cultural institution in Greenwich Village. Artists who have stopped playing in jazz clubs decades before, such as Sarah Vaughn, Lionel Hampton, Dizzy Gillespie, Stanley Turrentine, Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown, and Tito Puente, soon called Blue Note home.

Over the years, Blue Note has been an economic engine for Greenwich Village, bringing in jazz fans from all over the world.

The club receives rave reviews on a weekly basis in New York’s daily newspapers such as The New York Times and in international travel guides and magazines.

What makes Blue Note so special is that on a given night, anything can happen. It is not uncommon to see the likes of Stevie Wonder, Tony Bennett, Liza Minelli, and Quincy Jones get called up on stage from the audience to sit in.
