The renowned percussionist released his new album called “Golpe Duro” with his band “El Cartel de Nueva York” which is released under the Mod Squad, LLC label. This would be Mr. Rivero’s third studio production. On this occasion he is also accompanied by vocalist Anthony Almontes, who together with the music created by Johnny have 9 wonderful songs.

“We had a lot of fun making this album @vamoalmonte … Golpe Duro Available Now !!” The percussionist said with a picture posted on his Instagram account where he is with Anthony, showing how much they enjoyed making this album.

The first song of this album, which was released in digital format on October 9 and as a preview of the complete album, is “Quien te ha dicho” which has the participation of the violinists Raúl Roa and Laura Pérez, but also shows a congas solo by Rivero himself; the same song is a loving message that carries an incredible cadence that ends in the congas solo.

The song that gives the album its name “Golpe Duro” is a representation of Rivero’s career, history and achievements which is demonstrated with congas solo where we repeatedly hear his name. Another of the outstanding songs on this album is “Chinita Monda”, composed by Anthony Almonte and with time of Son Montuno, it also features the participation of Nelson González on tres and Jeremy Bosch on flute.

The remaining 6 songs are Mi Corazón Te Llama, Falta De Conciencia, Mi Son Asere, Listo Pa’ La Pelea, Sombra De Lluvia y Pide Que Hay. Which were composed by Eric Figueroa, Héctor Dávila, Anthony Almonte, Jeremy Bosch, Zaccai Curtis, Little Johnny and one of the guest Eddie Palmieri.

The official video for “Quien te ha dicho” was released on November 20, where musicians from various countries were brought together through technology, to perform the title song of this album. Little Johnny himself wrote on his Instagram account:

An international artist

Johnny Rivero was born in New York but moved to Puerto Rico, where he found his passion for music, until he achieved a place in the band La Sonora Ponceña with which he recorded 18 studio albums, which were excellently received by the salsa family. He has worked together and shared the stage with many great artists, such as nine-time Latin Grammy winner Eddie Palmieri.

He has also formed salsa and jazz bands where he brings together musicians from various parts of the world. In addition to teaching percussion at Kennedy High School in the Bronx in New York, it was there that he met Anthony Almonte who accompanies him in this new studio album, what neither of them knew was that they would meet again for this piece thanks to a mutual friend Jeffery Lopez.

On September 1, 1948, Angel ‘Cucco’ Peña was born, someone who from elementary school showed his interest in music and as the years passed, showed that there were little flashes of that brilliant talent he had. His talent and passion were aligned, so he always spent his life surrounded by music. Today he could be considered an icon of Latin music thanks to his achievements as an artist and thanks to everything he offered to the industry; he has managed to trace a career full of successes, one that today continues to inspire many people.

Peña’s talent led him to interact in many music-related activities, not only did he graduate from the Puerto Rico Music Conservatory, but also, after graduation, he joined the Pan-American Orchestra, starting with what would be a career full of reached goals. In the orchestra, he would familiarize himself with many different styles that would help him as a musician, since in the orchestra he played a wide variety of music, from bolero, blues and jazz, to pop and even rock.

Cucco left the band and began to trace his own path with everything he learned, he didn’t just become a music director, but a producer, composer, and arranger for many internationally famous artists such as: Ricky Martin, Chayanne, Ricardo Arjona, Olga Tañon, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Luis Fonsi, Franco de Vita and many other artists; despite each artist’s very different styles, Peña’s talent has allowed him to understand perfectly what all of them needed. In his own words, “it is important to see that music has three perspectives: the artist perspective, the company’s perspective, and my own.” Finding a perfect harmony between these three perspectives, Peña has participated in the creation of great themes.

The North American has not only managed to collaborate with a large number of renowned artists, but has also achieved a lot of recognition for his work, he is a two times Grammy winner, the first is the Grammy for the best tropical album contra la corriente, Marc Anthony’s album (1999), the second is Latin Grammy for best musical production, this thanks to Olga Tañón’s album, Yo por ti. Yolanda Rivera was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on June 30, 1951, she admits to listening to Cuban music since the age of 8.

Her hometown of Ponce saw the Cuban singer Celeste Mendoza’s event that triggered in the young Yolanda her desire to sing.

Naturally, with an exceptional voice, she says she never took singing lessons. In her family everyone sang, without making it a profession.

Yolanda Rivera had the opportunity to meet Quique Lucca-founder of the Ponceña who decided to recruit — in the 90’s she integrated for 3 years the Rubby Haddock Orchestra

She began her singing career in New York in 1969 as a member of Willie Rosario’s choir. Returning to Puerto Rico in 1975, she has joined the group Roberto y su Changó.

His real professional debut with the orchestra can be considered as the Terrífica. With this formation, in 1976 he recorded 33 tours: “sabor a pueblo” (int 908), where he sang the hit “mi corazón es para ti” and “Guaguancó No. 3” boleros “para que sufras” and “esta demás” on the same album “Pichie” Pérez is responsible for other pieces.

Was one of the most emblematic interpreters of romantic salsa. Anthony Cruz was born in New Jersey, United States, on January 5, 1965 to Puerto Rican parents and died the night of Friday, May 18, 2018, of a cardiac arrest, after several days in the hospital.

At an early age she demonstrated her talent as a singer by winning a contest for vocalists in New York, at the young age of five. There, she also stood out by singing with various youth salsa groups of the time and by 1992 she launched herself as a solo artist.

Before Anthony Cruz became a soloist for the Musical Productions label, he was trained by musical institutions that made him worthy of this great opportunity. He was part of the Pedro Conga International Orchestra, chorus singer in the productions of Roberto Lugo, Pedro Arroyo, Nino Segarra; and lead singer of the late Mario Ortíz.

Anthony Cruz died on the night of Friday, May 18, 2018, from a cardiac arrest, after several days in the hospital. His sister Mary Cruz posted a message on social networks announcing the death. The message read: “It is with great sorrow in my heart that I inform you that my beloved brother Anthony Cruz resides in the arms of our Lord. We will be grateful if you keep him in your prayers”.

After his death, the singer Gilberto Santa Rosa wrote in his Facebook account: “Rest the friend and great singer Anthony Cruz! Fly high brother and may your music remain in the hearts of your colleagues, friends and admirers, rest in peace”. While Andy Montañez wrote that with the departure of the interpreter of ‘Morena linda’ “a great one left”.

The singer Mimi Barra, declared on social networks: “My God, I can’t believe it, it can’t be…. unfortunately Anthony Cruz, my friend, with whom I made a duet with a song of my authorship ‘No puede ser’ and the interpreter of several songs I wrote as ‘Morena linda’, ‘Nunca te falleda’, ‘Dile a él’, ‘A qué saben tus besos’, etc… he left.
